Blog #6

My initial reaction to Diigo was feeling very overwhelmed. There is a lot of information on the initial page as well as when you first enter the group and it was a lot to take in all at once. After reading our assignment instructions and just navigating through the different links and pages, it became less overwhelming and it seems like a very useful tool. This is an easy to use website that allows people to share and find ideas easily based on key words and descriptions. It also has many different features that allow for a variety of ideas and sources to be shared. This would be a great forum for teachers to share their resources that have worked or have not worked for them in the past for other teachers or educators to refer to.

The blogging experience was not a completely foreign idea for me as it resembles discussion posts very closely in my opinion. We write about a topic or prompt and we post it for our classmates and teacher to see. It has created a more relaxed space than discussion posts and also allows for more creativity which I enjoy. Another thing I have learned from blogging is you get as much as you put into your blog. Blogger especially is useful because it gives you other elements to include in your blog. For example, I was able to embed my Twitter feed that has links to educational resources so someone reading my blog can quickly reference those resources or content.

A web 2.0 tool I would use in a future classroom would be Miro board. This is an online "white board" where students and teachers can post and edit ideas and presentations. This is an extremely helpful tool because it allows you to post individually as well as collectively as a class. It also stores everything you post so it is easy to refer back to at a later date. It is also extremely easy for students to use and can be accessed on a computer or through the app on your smart phone or tablet. It is a free app so anyone with internet or WIFI can access it and all students need is the class code or link and they have access to the entire board. A silly part of this website I really enjoy is the level of creativity it allows. There are about 20 different colors of sticky notes or markers or pencils and it allows for all students to express themselves in a way that works best for them but is still cohesive with the class.
